From already in high school I really liked mathematics.
It was also one of my courses which I was really good at.
So that’s why I decided to go for this master’s, before I decided to really become a doctor
and finish my Medicine study. Originally I’m from Germany and I
decided to move to the Netherlands to do my master’s here because the education
is really research focused. This master is perfectly combined of
my interest in programming and the… more mathematical side of statistics. I believe actually
that is a big advantage for me as a doctor to have more statistical knowledge,
as I would really like to do some research in the future. I meditate now since several years. I noticed that in this programme this really
helped me a lot, because it can be quite challenging from time to time. Well what is nice about Leiden University
is that they actually cooperate with a lot of other universities
and they also work together with the LUMC, it’s University Hospital there. Which is quite nice for me because I would really
like to do my internship there so I can work on my link with my medical background. The international community of Leiden
also makes the programme really interesting because everybody here
comes from a different background. Another reason why I started to follow this programme is that the courses are
taught also at the Mathematical Institute and that means that you get a more
mathematical background. This was a really important thing to me because I wanted
to not only use the methods but also understand the background of it. I just finished the first semester and there were already recruiters from
different companies who asked to see if you would like to do an internship there. I really believe that the job opportunities after you finished your masters are really good. One thing that I really like about
statistics is that you get to see so many different fields.
It’s a job that never becomes boring.
